Dinner at Dishoom Bombay Cafe in Covent Garden

As you can probably tell by now, I am a big fan of Dishoom in Covent Garden. I absolutely love their brunches and today, I finally tried their dinner with my friends Emily and Rachel who are visiting me from Granada!

Pre-Dinner Drinks at the Bar

Even though we arrived late at night with a dinner reservation, we still had to wait at least 30 minutes for our table. This place IS that good! We went downstairs to the bar and helped ourselves to the drink menu.

Predinner Drinks 1

Bombay Colada: The classic pineapple and vanilla concoction with a Bombay twist: a little coriander, chai syrup, lime juice. And rum.

Another Brunch at Dishoom in Covent Garden

A few of us met up for brunch today to later have tea with alumnae from our college in the States. We originally wanted to eat at a another restaurant, but when we got there, they were completely booked for the next week, so we decided to eat at Dishoom Bombay Cafe (again)!

Dishoom 3

Bun Maska: “The Irani café classic. The bun is toasted hot on the outside, with a slice of butter cold inside, to be dipped all into your spicy chai. The simplest thing, eaten everywhere in Bombay.”

Dishoom 4

Full Bombay: “Abundant Akuri, char- striped back bacon fresh off the flames, Cumberland sausage, Fire Toast and tomatoes grilled on the vine.”

Dishoom 5

Bombay Omelette: “A crazy-paving omelette of chopped tomato, onion, coriander and green chilli. Served with tomatoes grilled on the vine and Fire Toast.”

Dishoom 6

Egg naan roll: “Two fried eggs with runny yolk, some spicy green herbs, chilli tomato jam and a smidgen of cream cheese, inside naan baked to order. Warm and most gratifying.”

Brunch at Dishoom Bombay Cafe in Covent Garden

Last night, my classmate from the States, Sarah, and her friend Grace came in from King’s Cross Station for a few fun days in London! This morning, I decided to take them out to brunch to a highly recommended restaurant. And frankly, Dishoom Bombay Cafe is TOO AMAZING FOR WORDS!

Dishoom’s Breakfast Menu

Dishoom’s Bombay cuisine is surprisingly present in every single dish offered on the menu, creating a unique approach to many traditional English foods. I ordered the Full Bombay Breakfast for £7.90 which serves akuri (curried eggs), char-striped back bacon, Cumberland sausage, fire toast (toasted on open flame), and tomatoes grilled on the vine. By far, this was the most creative and delicious meal I ever stumbled upon in London!

Full Bombay Breakfast: A fun alternative to an English Breakfast. The sauce served with the meal is a wonderful sweet and spicy chutney

The grilled bacon on the fire toast was absolutely delicious! Both were charred to perfection and just tender enough to not require a knife.  To me, the eggs shares the same curry spices found in baingan bharta, which is my favorite Indian dish.  If you can’t tell by now, I REALLY liked this brunch and writing this post makes me want it more than ever!
